Section 1 ~ From The Left
Another rare publication, this one dates from 1909 and is aptly named “Delightful Dovercourt” published by E.C. Pattinson, who were located on the junction of Dovercourt High St & Kingsway.
The photos were taken by Owen C Coates of 42 Lee Road & C.E. Bates of the High Street Dovercourt.
This publication is particularly interesting as a copy was graciously accepted by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, possibly after his visit four years earlier in 1905, when they dined at Alexandra Hotel on a trip to inspect the local Militia.
I haven’t seen another copy of this publication in all my years of research and suspect very few survive. I will be publishing the item in full on the web site, as it not only contains photos, but local information of the time, such as tides & post office opening hours etc.
